Bridging the Gap
Friends of Reach are a passionate group of individuals who invest in the future of those Reach serves: individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Friends are the "bridge" that allow Reach's clients to live the fullest lives possible--ensuring the operational support for their care is in place year after year. This level of support is the foundation for Reach's ability to deliver and expand programs, providing a stable future for our clients.
Each year, Reach is tasked with bridging the gap in funding between the state Medicaid allocation and the actual cost of services for clients. That gap is $4,350 a year for a full-time Learning Activity Center (LAC) client. Add to that, Reach maintains a staff to client ratio of 1:5 at the LAC and 1:3 in our group homes (the LAC ratio is 2-3 times greater than most day programs). Plus, Reach maintains 23 group homes and 30 vehicles in service of our clients. Why? Because Reach is a place where clients come to focus on achieving their personal goals. A body, mind, and spirit approach allows each individual to grow and participate fully in an enriched environment. And the Medicaid threshold is simply insufficient for our clients' success.
As a Friend of Reach, your five-year investment ensures a client will receive the resources necessary to Live, Learn, and Earn.
Live.
For 40 years, Reach Unlimited has remained steadfast in pursuing our founders' goal of providing the best care for clients. From the original Mueller House, Reach has grown to 23 group homes in the greater northwest Houston area, ensuring that clients have safe, clean, comfortable and inviting places to call "Home."
Learn.
The Blair Inez Scianna Learning Activity Center focuses on educational, vocational and recreational elements of Life for all our clients. Mastering the "next step" is a goal both staff and clients work to achieve. Reach serves nearly 300 clients, with another 160 on the waitlist.
Earn.
Reach's supported employment program emphasizes job training, support and retraining for continued success in the work community. In-house crafts and contract jobs help ensure that every client has the opportunity to earn a paycheck. Reach actively supports 35 clients in their jobs throughout the community.
